The Police in Sokoto State, on Thursday inaugurated a new operation, PUFF ADDER, to tackle banditry and other criminal activities in the state.

PUFF ADDER, an initiative of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muhammad Adamu, is aimed at generally checkmating the uprising in the activities of criminals in the country.

Launching the operation, the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) in charge of Zone 10 Sokoto, Mr Muhammad Mustafa, said the objective was to provide adequate security in areas overwhelmed by the activities of armed bandits.

“The operation will be launched across the three states in the zone, we have launched the one in Zamfara and today we are launching in Sokoto; the next launch will be in Kebbi State.

“This is in order to primarily provide adequate security in all areas already overwhelmed by the activities of armed bandits in the zone.

“Moreover, we learnt that the heat on the criminals in Zamfara State is necessitating their movement of activities to Sokoto and Kebbi states.

“Therefore, we have to work very hard to ensure a lasting solution once and for all, in order to achieve the set objectives,’’ he said.

“Security is everybody’s business, so this time around we are all out to achieve our collective responsibility as scheduled,” he added.

The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto, Mr. Ibrahim Kaoje, commended the IGP for the time bound initiative, the AIG and the state government, for their commitment towards ensuring success of the operation.

Kaoje assured citizens that traditional rulers, spiritual leaders, vigilante, hunters and all other stakeholders, as well as members of the public would not be left out in the operation.
